Dr. Cristina Sherer Acquires Powell Veterinary Clinic

POWELL, OH, September 27, 2019 – Dr. Cristina E. Sherer has acquired Powell Veterinary Clinic from its previous owner, Dr. Sheila S. Mansfield.

“This is a strong practice serving a thriving community and I’m honored to build on Dr. Mansfield’s lifelong work to take Powell Veterinary Clinic forward,” said Dr. Sherer. “We see ourselves as a member of the Powell community – caring for pets and serving their families as we would our own.”

Powell Veterinary Clinic was established in 1982 by Dr. Mansfield, providing a full-service veterinary hospital to the Powell community for 36 years. Dr. Sherer joined the practice in 2005 and prior to that served clients and treated patients at Worthington Woods Animal Center in Worthington and Hillside Veterinary Clinic in Mt. Vernon.

Dr. Sherer earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2001 and her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences from The Ohio State University in 1995. Dr. Sherer grew up in Powell and attended Olentangy Schools from first grade through high school, graduating in 1990.

"I was faced with a very difficult choice when Dr. Sherer's diagnosis revealed that my cat, Erica, was gravely ill,” said Judy Staiger, Powell Veterinary Clinic client. “Dr. Sherer's compassionate, professional guidance helped me to make the right decision to provide short-term palliative treatment until it was clear the appropriate time had come to say goodbye. I am grateful for her heartfelt empathy and emotional support during those last precious moments with Erica.”

Dr. Sherer lives on her farm in Marengo along with her horses, llama, chickens, cats and a dog. She is passionate about the environment and wildlife conservation, and her farm is a State Conservation Reserve Program Prairie Preserve. She also enjoys gardening and scuba diving.

In addition to Dr. Sherer, Jennifer Sweinhart, D.V.M., continues to care for patients after 22 years with Powell Veterinary Clinic. As Dr. Mansfield transitions to retirement, Dr. Sherer hired Rachel Boyce, D.V.M. Dr. Boyce joins the practice from West Jefferson Animal Hospital, where she cared for patients and served clients for three years. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from The Ohio State University in 2011 and earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. In addition, nine veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants complete the staff.

Dr. Sherer is also making investments to improve service and care, including acquiring a new digital radiology unit and a digital dental radiology unit.
